Images of Paris in the snow

Paris was almost shut down by 15cm of snow this week. Yes Canadians and Scandinavians, you read that right. 15cm of snow. Though such a rare occurrence it is here that schools, roads and public transport had to be shut down for public safety. Despite the anger of some Parisians at the lack of preparation from the French authorities, most relished in their “snow day”, many not going to work and choosing to take their kids (or colleagues) out for snowball fights instead, making the most of the city’s largest snowfall since 1987.

More snow is due to fall in the coming days, so be sure to follow me on Instagram to catch all the action live.

I am so enjoying your photographs and envy your life style. Things I should have done when younger. I have zipped through Europe and spent time in my fathers village in Croatia but am now too old to go too far. I have to see it through your eyes.

Thank you, Mara! That is so kind of you to say! I am certainly very lucky to be living here even though sometimes it feels incredibly difficult compared to life in cruisy New Zealand! I really believe it’s never too late to travel, my Grandfather recently made it to Bali and he was in his late 80s at the time! It’s tough but so worth it! In the meantime, I’m happy to keep bringing you images from abroad! x

Hi Ainsley, I madly love your content, so beautiful photography… I actually never thought of visiting Paris by snow and I now wonder why I didn’t. This seams like a great idea. It’s been anyway too long I haven’t been to this fabulous city. Cheers, Ricarda

Thanks Ricarda! It was pretty special being able to see it in the snow and a very rare occurrence! I hope you are as lucky on your next trip here 🙂

Funny about how little it takes to shut the city down! But your pictures are gorgeous. Would love to see Paris in the snow.

    • Ainsley DS | 10th Feb 18

Haha yes, Paris is just totally unprepared for it. I hope you get to see it for yourself in the snow one day! 🙂

Wow! You did so well to take all these photos of the snow… or is it still hanging around? When it snows here in Amsterdam it disappears almost immediately so you should feel very proud of all these pics. Thank you for sharing them with us!

    • Ainsley DS | 10th Feb 18

Thanks so much! Normally when it snows here it disappears immediately too! But this time we had a big dumping and then freezing temperatures so it stayed around! It’s just started melting away today, unfortunately. But also so ready for some warmer weather 🙂

Absolutely beautiful photos! I love Paris. Was there in December and wish there had been snow. Although we get a lot more snow than that regularly, I can see why in a city that’s not used to it, it would cause the city to practically shut down. Days like that must be fun! Life for us in a Washington State, just below Canada goes on like any other day when there’s a foot or more of snow 😂 But I love it! I can’t beliebe it’s a record since 1987! Enjoy!

Thanks so much! Haha yes, it’s been a lot of fun here and I think a mostly unproductive week for most people! It would be amazing to see somewhere like Washington State covered in snow!

Paris is charming every season but it’s a real winter wonderland, Ainsley. I haven’t explored in in winter and it seems like an awesome idea. Your pictures left me speechless. 🙂
